Jump from Paper is a powerful pop handbag line frome Taipei-based design duo Chay Su and Rika Lin. Surreal in their simplicity, but amazingly cool, these cartoon-like bags would make you stand out in a crowd and might also make Jessica Rabbit swoon.

Meggs’ History of Graphic Design for iPad

The San Francisco-based Inkling makes smartbooks — interactive textbooks for the iPad. Inkling has recently undergone the incredible task of designing and (re)creating a digital, interactive version of the timeless Meggs’ classic, History of Graphic Design.

Having studied this book and made hundreds of black and white photocopies for various tests, the thought of a handy, accessible iPad version is very appealing. I think the exciting thing is that Inkling hasn’t just turned a good book into a nice PDF for the iPad. Rather, they’re utilizing the power of the technology to enhance the content of an already powerful book creating a much needed learning tool. And the design and UI/UX of the book is just so well thought out.

Susan Stockwell

British artist Susan Stockwell ‘work takes many forms from small elaborate studies to large scale installations, sculpture, drawings and collage. It is concerned with issues of ecology, geo-politics, mapping, trade and global commerce. The materials used are the everyday, domestic and industrial disposable products that pervade our lives. These materials are manipulated and transformed into works of art that are extraordinary.

Tom Haubrick

Tom Haubrick works as a tattoo artist and illustrator. His art portrays the struggle of love, loss, and travels the last few years of his life. He has displayed his artwork in a number of galleries since 2004. He currently resides in Pasadena.

PENÉLOPE

Die Installation der Künstlerin Tatiana Blass beschäftigt sich mit dem Mythos um Homer’s Odyssee. Penélope war die Frau von Odysseus und wartete zwanzig Jahre am Strand auf ihren Gatten, während er seine Abenteuer erlebte. Um sich nicht von lästigen Verehrern vom Warten ablenken zu lassen, suchte sie sich eine sinnvolle Beschäftigung. Sie webte drei Jahre lang ein Leichenhemd für ihren Stiefvater. Penélope versprach einen Bewerber auszuwählen wenn sie damit fertig sei, da keiner an die Rückkehr ihres Ehemanns glaubte. Doch heimlich knüpfte sie Teile des Hemds Nachts wieder auf um keinen anderen auswählen zu müssen und ihrem Abenteurer treu zu bleiben.

Die Installation befindet sich in der Kapelle von Morumbin in São Paulo. Blass lebt und arbeitet in Brasilien. Der Webstuhl befindet sich dort, wo eigentlich der Altar sein sollte. Auf einer Seite breitet sich ein langer roter Teppich aus während sich die Fäden, die in den Webstuhl führen, völlig verworren auf der Rückseite befinden. Das rote Garn wird durch Löcher in der Wand nach draußen geführt, wo es den ganzen Garten bedeckt. Man fragt sich, analog zu Penélope´s Geschichte, ob das Stück gerade gewebt oder aufgeknüpft wird.

Skateboarding in den Straßen von New York in den 1960ern

Ich habe ein bisschen Retronaut gespielt und aus dem LIFE Fotoarchiv bei Google Schwarzweiß-Bilder mit Skateboardern zusammengestellt, die Bill Eppridge Mitte der 1960er in New York gemacht hat. Als Asphaltsurfen auf Rollbrettern noch in den Kinderschuhen steckte – im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Für einzelne Bildnachweise war ich zu faul, wer nach Bill Eppridge + Skateboarding sucht, sollte aber relativ schnell ans Ziel kommen. Nach dem Klick drölf Millionen Fotos …
